Inspiration Combination

Photo Above:  Taken just outside Delores Park in San Francisco.  Part of my "Bugs' Eye View" collection.

Over the past few days I have been communicating with a new friend.  He is a professional photographer and loves body building as well.  Taking my last trip to the central coast and combining it with what I am learning from him, I am feeling more and more like I may be able to use photography and writing hand in hand as an expression of art and statement of life.  I think I will call it Pictures For Life.

My embryonic idea is to establish a site where I can post my own creative photography along with writings and poems.  My dream is that others would be inspired and touched by the work and purchase prints.  I would then use the proceeds to support my passionate work of volunteering, building worldwide relationships, learning new languages and using all of this to continue creative photography, artwork and writing.

Let's see how this all falls together.  Over the past month I have been introduced to at least four people that communicated aspects of what I am thinking here.  So as it is with everything in my life, I am not an island.  Everything I do is connected to the world around me.

The Rudy Garcia Invasion

Virgin America has been flying for less than one year and already they have three in-flight team mates with the same name:  Rudy Garcia.

If I cannot make a difference on my own I will just have to call on all Rudy Garcia's to come assist me and other team mates in keeping Virgin America an airline that our guests love and our employees love.

Coasting along the California Central Coast

Last week I spent three days traveling with my friend, Mike.  We drove up the central coast of California.  Our primary goal was to enjoy the spender of the miles and miles of unspoiled natural beauty.  He taught me a few photo taking techniques and I have posted my favorites in my album here on Gaia.  The heading of this posting is also one of my favorites from the trip.

He and I came to the conclusion that Nature, Inc. is a company we both want to own stock in.  Nature has a way of creating the most perfect and enjoyable things in life.

If I Could Design My Own Work

Posted on May 20th, 2008 by Walla-Rudy : Being the Change Walla-Rudy

If I could fashion my own work/job, here is what it would look like:

Predictability for both myself and the group/organization that I work with.  I could give a predictable amount of time and a flat predictable cost for my time and energy.

1) I would ask for a flat salary of $75k gross not requiring any pay increase for five years and then only to adjust for inflation.

2) I would ask for no medical, dental, retirement savings, pension, EAP or any other such perk.

3) I would ask to work with a group of people or for an organization that has a mission/cause worth believing in.  Non-profit and Not-for-profit are preferable but For-Profit are fine as well.

4) I would ask to work 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (40 hrs/wk) for only 9 months (38 weeks) out of the year with three months (14 weeks) chosen through agreement with the group or organization on a yearly basis.  No vacation pay required.

5) Work location would be preferably in the San Francisco Bay Area, Austin, San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle or a combination of these locations and telecommuting.

6) What I have to offer is outstanding energy and focus, drive and passion.  I have excellent interpersonal communication skills, training skills, negotiation and consulting skills.  I type about 40wpm, understand mainstream computer office programs such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other.  I am an advanced computer user and can run ad hoc reports converting raw data into meaningful information.  I'm fit and strong and capable of carrying out strenuous tasks for long periods of time.  I'm creative and action oriented.  I am organized and efficient.  I have superb customer service skills.  I'm clean and professional and have excellent writing skills.  Finally, I am a very fast learner and can adapt quickly.

If there is anyone that would like to bring me into their team or knows of someone that would, let me know.

Northern California Splendor

I spent a good half of the day yesterday walking and talking with a former colleague and friend from Kaiser Permanente.

I trotted on over to East Bay on the BART and headed to St. Mary's College for a brief campus walk followed by a couple hours in the foothills  above Lafayette and Orinda.

I met two swarms of bees that brought back eire reminders of a childhood attack by wasps but fortunately I cleared myself of the bee swarms yesterday without one single sting.

I soaked up at least a gallon or two of sunshine and actually look latino again.

My final observation:  Getting out into nature and communicating with loved ones has a way of resetting me, recalibrating my path, clearing my vision and more.

I had the joy of flying for a day with Mazen and some of our newest flight attendants at Virgin.  We had a great time and worked together quite well . . . . no surprise there.

When Jet Blue is virgin . . .

Yesterday I rode on the virgin flight of Jet Blue from Austin to San Francisco non-stop.  Jet Blue is classy and comfortable.

I had a wonderful time in Austin.  The days flew by.  Now I am prepping to start flying again.  Let's see, clean the apartment, do laundry, prepare uniforms, jump down to San Diego for an appointment and return all in a day!  Sounds like fun.  Let's go.

Cool Cat, Warm Sun, Ahhhhhh!

Me and the neighborhood mascot were chillin' in the back yard just before sunset.   This cat makes his way from home to home checking on everyone and ensuring the safety of the hood.  He never meows or requests any hand outs, he looks both ways before crossing the street and all around he's an excellent example to adults and children alike.

Everyone say hi to the unnamed white cat that likes to kick it with me in the back yard.

Good Morning!

After a lovely morning relaxing in the house I decided to head out to the gym and to enjoy a lovely day courtesy of Capitol Metro.  Can't beat a $1 per day or $10 per month unlimited rides.  But, I digress.

I couldn't believe my eyes.  One of the largest branches had broken off of the tree in the front yard and completely blocked the driveway and come just inches from slamming into my friends truck.

Good ol' Austin 311 was there to help. I gave them a jingle and they contacted the Parks and Recreation department to come out and clear up the stubborn limb.

I guess the celebration just a day ago was a bit too much for the ol' chap.

Austin Welcomes Me Home with a CLAP . . .

of THUNDER and FLASH of LIGHTNING.

I've returned to Austin for 4 to 5 days.  The trees and bushes are alive again, draped in colors of Spring.  Last night the welcoming committee rolled through the skies of Austin to give me a spectacular welcome home.  BOOM! FLASH! Ratta tatta tatta tat on the roof, tree branches and leaves swaying back and forth in joy.

What better welcome could anyone ask for.  Nature truly is our friend.

What a treat.  In the past two weeks I met two people in the air while I was attending the flights. Both of them have re-ignited my passion for a world where all basic human needs are met while sustaining long term environmental health and preserving indigenous cultures.  The future is chocked full of possibilities and I believe the human race is up to the challenge.  Nature and the Universe is on our side.
